Dr Trevor Smith BM, MRCP

Professional profile:

Dr Smith trained at Southampton University Medical School, graduating in 1995. He undertook higher specialist training in Medicine and Gastroenterology in the Wessex region and completed a research fellowship in Clinical Nutrition at the Institute of Human Nutrition (Southampton University).

Dr Smith was appointed as a consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 2006 and transferred to Southampton University Hospitals in 2010. He looks after patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal problems and has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, clinical nutrition and colonoscopy. Working with Dr Mike Stroud, they both lead a regional intestinal failure service, managing patients with very complex gut problems.

Dr Smith chairs the British Artificial Nutrition Survey (BANS) and is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology small bowel and nutrition committee and the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) council.
