Abnormal LFTs

Abnormal LFTs (liver function tests) are very common and often found incidentally when you see your doctor for another reason. At the basic level this is an indication that your liver is unhappy about something. Often there is a simple explanation and the only treatment required is to make a few lifestyle changes such as drinking less alcohol and losing weight. Occasionally abnormal LFTs can indicate something more serious, and for this reason a proper evaluation is desirable to find the cause and direct treatment as appropriate.

Common causes include: fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, viral hepatitis, metabolic problems, gall stones and medication reactions. There are many rarer problems as well.
